About Midwood Smokehouse

We're your neighborhood smokehouse using nothing but NC hickory hard wood and hard work to make the best barbecue around.

Located at 409 W Johnson St, Raleigh, NC 27603, Midwood Smokehouse operates as a chinese bbq serving Raleigh in North Carolina. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it. Google also lists it under southern restaurant (us), which is worth knowing if you are comparing several options in the area.

In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Raleigh; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in North Carolina are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

The business lists hours on 7 days of the week. Typical hours are 11 am–9 pm. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. The listed phone number is (919) 267-2666. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, midwoodsmokehouse.com.

Customers rate it 4.5 out of 5 on Google across 1,015 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded chinese bbq & roast meats in Raleigh.

Raleigh is in North Carolina, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Raleigh follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

My son and I have been searching for the best barbecue in the Raleigh area. Midwood is right up there at the top. Here’s a quick rundown of our experience: A+: service (even got a tour of the smoker), pulled pork, bacon-wrapped jalapeΓ±os, hush puppies, sweet tea, and even the pickles! One of the best touches was the antique platesβ€”it made our meal all the more special and demonstrated their commitment for putting quality over speed or convenience. The brisket, banana pudding, and ribs get a solid A. The mac and cheese looked amazing, but the taste was a B at best (my son liked it better than I did). Basically, I highly recommend, and my mouth is watering just thinking about going back!

First time at Midwood Smokehouse and overall everything went well. Monster brisket sandwich had slaw that didn’t quite blend well and more bbq sauce options are needed. Baked beans were delicious and so was the pecan cobbler. Brisket was cooked perfectly.

The service was excellent. The food was also great. We went on a Saturday afternoon and sat outside. The restaurant is located in a beautiful little spot. The waitress (Peyton I believe was her name) was fantastic, super nice and willingly answered all our questions, as it was our first visit. If you go, ask for some mustard it’s so dang good! Best hush puppies I’ve had in a long time as well!

Great BBQ. Table side made guacamole was delicious and a very generous portion. Hush puppies were fried to perfection. Excellent service and free parking right in front of the restaurant. Perfect early dinner before getting on the plane!

10/10 experience! We tried this spot for Restaurant Week and everything was so delicious. The burnt ends and brisket were super flavorful, and the hushpuppies and mac & cheese were perfect comfort sides πŸ˜‹ The chicken taquitos were surprisingly good too. I wasn’t expecting much as an appetizer, but wow, they really impressed me. My friends also ordered the chicken as a protein and said it was really good. And the apple pie bread pudding? Absolutely amazing. Highly recommend this spot, especially for Restaurant Week. The 3-course meal was $40 and totally worth it! btw I’m obsessed with their pickles - wonder if u can just buy some
